Perplexity says Perplexity Computer, its agent that does tasks for you, can now run fully locally on Apple silicon Macs.
What’s new
- It runs on Qwen 3.6 or PPLX Pro (a post-trained Qwen) inside the Perplexity Mac app. 36GB of memory or more is recommended, and Perplexity points at the new Mac minis.
- The model, planning, reasoning and file processing stay on the device. Code and tools run in isolated sandboxes.
- It can drive native apps like Notes, Messages, Mail, Keynote and Numbers without sending your data to the cloud.
- Hybrid Compute mixes cloud frontier models with local ones and works on Macs with as little as 24GB.
- Available now for Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers.
My take
Local agents that touch your real apps are exactly where this is going, and doing it with sandboxing built in is the right call. If your Mac has the memory, this is worth a look.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
