Dennis Prager, Paralyzed: ‘I Am Not Disappointed in God’

Nearly two years after a fall at home left him paralyzed from the shoulders down, Dennis Prager gave his first in-person speech since the accident. His headline line: “I am not disappointed in God.”

What he said

  • “A lot of people become atheists who were believers because they expected God to protect them, and then it didn’t happen.”
  • “I don’t expect God to protect me… I want to know what God wants of me much more than what I want of God.”
  • He doesn’t know why God allowed the fall. But he does know “God is with me at this painful time in my life.”
  • That morning his wife, Sue, happened to be upstairs and saw him fall. He believes that saved him from brain damage, and his doctors call his outcome “miraculous.”

My take

That’s mature faith right there. We don’t follow Jesus because He promises a pain-free life. We follow Him because He’s real, and He promised to be with us in the fire. I love that Prager points to his wife being in the right place at the right time. That’s the Holy Spirit’s fingerprints, the quiet providence we usually only see looking back. If you’re in a season that makes no sense, He’s still with you. Romans 8:28 still stands.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
