Dallas Jenkins Nearly Quit Filmmaking. Then God Sent One Message

Before The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins was on his couch, ready to walk away. He told Jeremy Boreing the story, and it’s a good one.

What happened

  • His big break, The Resurrection of Gavin Stone, had Blumhouse and a nationwide release behind it. It was “a total bomb, just a total disaster.”
  • He admits “affirmation was my drug of choice.” He used to practice Academy Award speeches in the mirror.
  • His wife, Amanda, felt God prompting them to read the feeding of the 5,000. That night, a Facebook message arrived from a man in Romania he’d never met: “Remember, your job is not to feed the 5,000. It’s only to provide the loaves and fish.”
  • When Jenkins asked why he sent it, the man said: “Oh, that wasn’t me. God told me to tell you that.”
  • Jenkins surrendered, and went back to a shelved script about Christ’s birth from the shepherds’ view. That road led to The Chosen.

My take

That’s a word of knowledge, plain and simple. A stranger on the other side of the world hears the Holy Spirit and speaks right into a private moment. I love it. Our job is the loaves and fish. Multiplying them is God’s job. Give Him what you’ve got and let go of the outcome.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
