The Mesa graphics project changed its AGENTS.md so AI can help draft code comments and commit messages, as long as a human reviews and edits the final version.
What changed
- Alyssa Rosenzweig said the old text was “unnecessarily limiting” and broke workflows where an agent writes a first draft and a person revises it.
- “As long as the final changes submitted to us are human, we don’t care about those intermediate steps.”
- The project policy itself didn’t change. She called it a compromise that “satisfies nobody 100%.”
- She treats AGENTS.md like software, and this was a bug fix.
My take
That’s a sensible line: own what you submit, however you got there. AGENTS.md files are becoming real policy documents, and it’s good to see a project tune one based on how people actually work.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
