Quick follow-up to my earlier post on Omarchy and the M6 Mac mini. On October 19, Joshua Warren of the Omarchy M team had a bootloader and a kernel loading into RAM, but no shell. On October 21 he posted: “Linux on the M6 Mac Mini, Day 5 – success!”
What changed
- Omarchy is installed on the Mac mini’s internal drive. It boots, it runs.
- Day four got HDMI working and the kernel booting. Day five got the storage drivers binding so a disk install works.
- The About screen shows Omarchy 4.0.0 on the edge channel, Linux 7.1.12, Hyprland 0.56.2 and Tokyo Night. Graphics still read llvmpipe (software rendering), so the GPU is still on the to-do list, along with Ethernet.
- Warren says his AI agents are reconfiguring or building drivers from scratch because of the changes Apple made in the M6.
- DHH’s reaction: “We can fix everything. Even the very latest M chips!”
My take
Five days from the macOS About screen to the Omarchy About screen on Apple’s newest chip is wild. The agent angle is the part I keep thinking about: a human steering, agents grinding through driver bring-up. That’s the same pattern I use with my own bots, just aimed at much harder hardware. Once GPU and Ethernet land, this gets very interesting.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
