Codex CLI 0.165.0 is out as a stable release.
New features
- A built-in Google Cloud Vertex AI provider (
model_provider = "gcp"). - GPT-6.1 Terra in the model catalog.
- A repository filter in the session picker, and directory grouping in the agent command center for linked worktrees.
- Reasoning effort can now be changed mid-conversation by default on supported models.
- Memory v2 is on by default for fresh profiles, and it can import external-agent memories.
- Experimental attached thread forks in the app-server API.
Notable fixes
- Closed a marketplace URL validation gap that could let Git connect to a different host than the one checked against allowed patterns.
- Remote MCP tool requests are cancelled when their local responses are dropped.
- Queued messages no longer restart work after an interrupt or a switch to Plan mode.
Memory v2 being on by default is worth knowing about. Check what it remembers.
Review before you run anything: read the docs yourself, back up your config, and try it somewhere you can afford to break first.
