Google’s Gemini 4 Carbon Takes Aim at Claude Opus 5.5

Two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon, Google is out with Gemini 4 Carbon.

The details

Google DeepMind’s Koray Kavukcuoglu calls it Google’s strongest model yet, especially for cybersecurity and long-running tasks. It costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output for now, the same as Argon. After an unspecified intro period it goes to $4 and $20, matching Claude Opus 5.5. The Register reports Carbon leads SEC-bench Pro, ExploitGym and CWE-bench, places fourth on WebDev Arena, and ranks second behind Opus 5.5 for best overall agent on Arena.ai. Google claims more than 2x better secure-code generation than Argon, and a group of cyber defenders gets early access through its Fairwind program.

My take

The intro price is the real story. Benchmarks are one thing, but I want to see how it holds up on real agent work before the price doubles.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
