Can Guilt Ever Be Silenced? Yes, Because the Spirit Testifies You’re His

A Christian Post column asks, “Can guilt ever be silenced?” and goes back to Martin Luther’s breakthrough to answer it.

Luther’s open door

Luther was terrified of Romans 1:17, “the righteousness of God.” He knew God was righteous and he wasn’t. Then he saw that it’s a righteousness God gives to the ungodly. “Thereupon I felt myself to be reborn and to have gone through open doors into paradise.” The weight of guilt rolled off.

My take

Guilt doesn’t get silenced by trying harder or grading yourself on a curve. It gets silenced by a verdict and a witness.

The verdict: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Not less condemnation. None.

The witness: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children” (Romans 8:16). That’s not just a doctrine you agree with. It’s the Holy Spirit on the inside telling you, “You’re His.” When the accuser replays your worst moments, the Spirit answers with the Father’s voice.

If you’re still carrying it, stop and ask Him right now: “Holy Spirit, tell me who I am.” Then let Him.

Father, thank You that there’s no condemnation in Christ. Holy Spirit, testify again in us that we’re Yours. Amen.

God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
