Study: Churches Miss Up to $30 Billion a Year Because Giving Isn’t Consistent

Givelify’s 2026 Giving in Faith report, done with support from the Lake Institute on Faith & Giving, says U.S. faith communities may be missing $25 to $30 billion a year. Not because people aren’t generous, but because their giving isn’t consistent. The Christian Post covered it.

The numbers

  • Consistent givers (monthly, most months) were about 30% of donors but gave 81.5% of the money
  • Church leaders tend to think more than half their people give consistently. They don’t
  • Most donors say they want to give more consistently but don’t follow through
  • Their model says a typical congregation could see about $50,000 more a year. It’s an illustration, not a forecast

My take

Giving isn’t a fundraising problem. It’s a heart thing. “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Paul even told the Corinthians to set something aside “on the first day of every week” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Consistency was the plan all along.

And that money isn’t for buildings. It’s food pantries, shelter, outreach, missionaries. If the Spirit has been nudging you to give, don’t wait for a big moment. Set it up and let it be regular.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
