NVIDIA released 620.70.06, the first Linux driver in the R620 branch. Not a huge feature drop, but some good Wayland work.
What’s new
- Faster explicit sync in high frame-rate benchmarks on Wayland
- Fixed corruption and flicker in Vulkan apps on Wayland with
__VK_ENABLE_DEVICE_GROUPSon multi-GPU systems - The
__GL_SHOW_GRAPHICS_OSDindicator now works on all Vulkan back-ends, including Wayland - Fixed a regression since R595 in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and crashes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with VKD3D-Proton
My take
Wayland compositors like Hyprland on Omarchy are where this matters. On a rolling distro, a new driver branch is worth a day or two of letting other people find the bugs first.
Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
