The New York Times reports that Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore cloud firm Megaspeed (a big Nvidia chip buyer), was recruited by China’s Ministry of State Security to gather intelligence on Jensen Huang, per Slashdot. Nvidia rejects the claims and says customers get “ordinary business information.”
Congress wants answers
The chairs of the House China, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees asked Huang to appear at a closed briefing on Nov. 18, Ars Technica reports. Separately, The Verge, citing the Times, says one Chinese firm approved to buy H200s, New Matrix, has empty offices and owners tied to a blacklisted private equity firm.
My take
Human intelligence never went away. It just follows the money, and right now the money is in AI chips. Export controls only work if somebody actually checks who’s on the other end.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
