550 Baptisms in Bridlington’s Freezing Waters

More than five hundred people walked into the North Sea at Bridlington and came up confessing Jesus. Organizer Merlin Kraft of BibleLadUK reports 550 public baptisms on that beach — after about 170 at Bigbury-on-Sea a month earlier. Charisma, publishing with CBN News, calls it among Britain’s largest recent mass baptisms.

Cold water. Warm Spirit.

I am a charismatic believer. Freezing water does not intimidate the Helper. Jesus said disciples get baptized (Matthew 28:19), and the early church answered the same way Peter did: repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38). Kraft’s own words after the day — “God turned up” — are the right category. Not a branding campaign. A harvest.

Britain has heard a lot of decline talk. Then people travel across the country to get wet for Jesus and cheer strangers out of the waves. “There’s a real harvest out there,” Kraft said, and he plans to keep going around the country. That matches what I watch for: open Bibles, honest questions, churches that suddenly feel crowded with seekers.

What I am praying

Pray for the newly baptized — that the joy on the beach becomes a life with a local church. Pray for Merlin’s team as they keep saying yes. The Spirit still pours out on all flesh (Acts 2:17). England is not too cold for that promise.

Cold saltwater baptisms are a vivid picture, but the quieter miracle is people traveling across Britain because they want to obey Jesus in public. Keep an eye on the local churches absorbing those new believers — stadium energy fades; weekly fellowship is where the Spirit keeps teaching.

Have a blessed day!
