Elon Musk has been showing off Grok Bot shopping for him. He posted that you can drop a photo of your credit card in the chat and it’ll find the best deal and order it. He had it pick out and buy Lego Star Wars kits, a $241.34 order that showed up a few days later.
Then on Thursday he made a promise: “If Grok Bot makes a mistake with a purchase or leaks your card (never happened yet), SpaceX will make you whole.”
Not everyone was sold. A community note pointed out that SpaceXSI tells users not to put personal info in prompts, and that the terms let it store data and credentials in its cloud, with human review for financial transactions. Someone also said Amazon was blocking the agent.
My take: agent shopping is handy, and the guarantee is a big statement. But I’d still use a virtual card or a payment method with limits, not a photo of my main card. Trust, but put guardrails on it.
