Moose is a GNOME-native AI chat app built on GTK4 and libadwaita. It started as a local chat app and has grown into cloud providers too. Version 0.6 is out.
- Secure cloud connections with protected credential storage.
- A Local-Only mode using Ollama managed by Moose on your own device.
- Permissions per chat, or remembered across chats with the same provider.
- A GNOME Files browser for attaching files to a conversation.
- A bigger local model catalog for chat, vision, reasoning and coding.
- Moose 0.6.1 followed with Mistral AI and DeepSeek connections.
It’s on GitHub and Flathub.
My take
A Local-Only switch is exactly what I want in a desktop AI app: one toggle and nothing leaves the machine.
