52 Days of Prayer: A Nehemiah Call to Rebuild the Walls

Some of the best news this week isn’t a crowd number. It’s a call to get on our knees.

What’s happening

CBN reports on the Nehemiah Alliance, led by executive director Barbara Ann Jeter, which is calling believers to 52 days of prayer, fasting and repentance. It started at sundown on September 10 and runs through sundown on All Saints Sunday, November 1. Jeter says it came out of asking the Lord last August, “What do you want, Lord, for America’s 250th?”

  • The 52 days come straight from Nehemiah, who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem in 52 days (Nehemiah 6:15).
  • The finale is a gathering on the National Mall on Saturday, October 31, Reformation Day, with names like Alveda King, Michael W. Smith and Eric Metaxas expected. Jeter’s line: “On the darkest night, we’re believing to shine the brightest light.”
  • She says it’s not political, and it’s not too late to jump in. “Fast as the Holy Spirit leads you,” she said, with a special call to fast on October 31.
  • She’s asking people to be “modern-day gatekeepers” and build the wall in front of their own house: pray for your family, your street, your schools, your pastors and the people in authority.

My take

I love that last part. In Nehemiah 3, everybody repaired the section of wall right by their own door. Revival has always worked that way. Before the Spirit fell in Acts 2, they were all with one accord in one place, praying. Before the Welsh Revival and Azusa Street, it was small groups of people who wouldn’t stop praying. You don’t need a ticket to D.C. for this one. You need a closet, a little hunger and the willingness to let the Holy Spirit lead your fast. There are about two weeks left. That’s plenty of time for God.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
