How-To: Try Omarchy 4.5 RC1 Without Risking Your Daily Driver

Omarchy 4.5 RC1 is packed, and the team is blunt: it’s a release candidate, so expect rough edges. Here’s a safe way to test it.

1. Pick the right machine

Use a spare laptop or a VM. If it has to be a machine you depend on, take a backup or a snapshot you know how to roll back to first.

2. Existing install: switch channels

  • Run Update > Channel > RC, then Update > Omarchy.

3. Fresh install: grab the right ISO

  • x86_64 for most PCs. aarch64 for NVIDIA N1x and Snapdragon X laptops (it’s not a Mac installer).
  • Check the SHA256 checksum from the release notes before you write the USB stick.

4. Kick the tires

  • Language switcher, per-monitor workspaces with Super + 1-0, the new notifications, Super + L layout cycling and Super + M to the dock.
  • Reboot and time the one-second boot menu. Suspend once and check the lock screen.

5. Report what breaks

File issues on GitHub with clear steps. That’s how 4.5 final ships faster.

6. Rolling back

Switch the channel back to stable, or restore your snapshot.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
