Well, this one I didn’t see coming. On October 21, developer Henrik Klee posted a one-minute video: “Omarchy running natively on iPad 6.” Not a VM and not remote desktop. It’s running on the tablet itself.
What we know
- The touchscreen and Wi-Fi work, and charging works too (capped at 425 mA for now).
- Still to do: suspend and resume, Bluetooth pairing and audio, and faster charging.
- DHH quote-posted it with one word: “Wow!”
- Henrik says a repo with install instructions, tooling, drivers and a touch-adapted shell is “coming soon.” There’s nothing to install yet.
- It’s already inspiring others. Tom Ballard got plain ARM64 Linux running on an iPad mini 4, and his next stop is Omarchy.
My take
Old iPad in a drawer? Don’t toss it yet. Between ARM ISOs, foldables and now iPads, Omarchy is showing up everywhere.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
