Ollama 0.40.8 Brings Flint, a 40B Coding Model for Agents

Ollama 0.40.8 is out, and the headline is Flint, Recursive’s coding model, now on Ollama.

About Flint

  • An Apache 2.0, 40B mixture-of-experts model with about 2.5B parameters active per token.
  • Built for agent work across a repo: reading unfamiliar code, tracing bugs, building features and adding tests.
  • Reasoning, multi-turn tool use and a 262K-token context window.
  • Recursive reports 54.9% on Terminal-Bench 2.1 and 74.2% on SWE-bench Verified.
  • For now it’s supported on macOS only. Other GPUs come in a later release, and 0.40.9-rc1 is already out.

My take

Only 2.5B active parameters makes this a really interesting local coding agent. I’m going to try it on a Mac.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
