Some seeds take decades to come up. More than 40 years ago Pat Robertson brought CBN’s animated Bible series Superbook to Japan, and CBN News reports it’s still bearing fruit, now with kids and elderly Japanese hearing the Gospel for the first time.
What’s happening
- At Jesus Family Church in Tokyo, Pastor Nozomi Nishimura trades his suit for a Pikachu costume at the church’s yearly Joy Joy Festival. “Today alone, we had 10 non-Christian families attend, and then they come to church,” he said.
- Superbook was at the festival for the third year running, and organizers noticed far more kids already knew the theme song, the “Salvation Poem.”
- Christians are less than one percent of Japan’s population. One mom said Superbook works because “it’s very hard for kids to read the normal Bible,” but songs, dance and pictures make it easy.
- The team also visited Sunday schools, teaching about Queen Esther and calling kids a “Kingdom Generation.” One boy said his biggest prayer is that his school friends “get to know Jesus, be saved, and know the truth of the Bible.”
My take
I love this. Japan is one of the hardest mission fields on earth, and the Holy Spirit is using a cartoon and a pastor in a Pikachu suit to crack the door open. That’s the Lord. He goes where we’d never think to look. “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void.”
And that little boy praying for his classmates? That’s revival in seed form. Pray for Japan this week. Pray the Spirit falls on those families who walked in for a festival and stayed for Jesus.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
