Jordan Church Attack: Holy Land Christians Say They Aren’t Going Anywhere. Let’s Pray.

Premier Christian News reports that gunmen opened fire during a funeral at St George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Hamoud, in Jordan’s Karak region, on Friday. At least seven people were killed and around 40 injured. Karak is home to a long-standing Christian community.

What the church leaders said

  • Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, the Holy Synod and Metropolitan Christophoros of Jordan called the attack “vile and cowardly” and sent their condolences to the families.
  • They said the attack “only strengthens the bond between Christians and Muslims” in Jordan.
  • And then this: “We shall not be driven to leave our land… We shall remain here as witnesses to the faith, regardless of how great the challenges or how severe the trials may be.”

Let’s pray

I’m not here for the politics. I’m here to pray. Pray for the families burying their loved ones twice over. Pray healing for the injured. Pray the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, would be thick in Karak right now. And pray for those believers to stay bold, because “witnesses to the faith” is exactly what Jesus called us to be (Acts 1:8).

Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Lord, be close to Jordan’s church today.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
