Space.com reports astronomers found a gamma-ray burst, GRB 220706A (spotted July 6, 2022), whose central engine kept flaring in X-rays for about 27 days. The previous record for late flaring was around six days. Nobody knows yet what powered it. It could be a magnetar or an unusually huge star, maybe a blue supergiant around 1,000 times the sun’s radius.
My take
A single star collapsing and still putting out more power than anything we can picture for a whole month. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1). The more we find out, the bigger He looks. Let it stir some worship in you today.
God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
