Phoronix reports the Steam Frame, codenamed “Deckard,” got an initial device tree upstreamed in the Linux 7.4 SoC merge. Linaro’s Neil Armstrong wrote the patches. The headset runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (SM8650).
The initial support covers memory, regulators, PMIC functions, UFS storage, USB gadget mode, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth, I2C and the SD card slot.
My take
SteamOS’s own kernel will still be the polished option, but mainline support opens the door for other distros on the Frame. Not bad for a device that only launched in September.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
