Charisma ran a Spirit-led devotional this morning on John 8:31-32, and it hit me right where I needed it.
“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32, NIV)
The key points
- Some people follow Jesus for what they can get (John 6:26). The devotional calls out the “wish granter” gospel, where God gets treated like a genie.
- Discipleship means continuing in His Word: steady, focused, committed, without interruption.
- Knowing verses isn’t the same as being free. The truth that sets you free starts with knowing how great God is and how much the Father loves you.
- Think about little kids who know they’re loved. They’re secure, carefree, living in the moment. That’s the freedom on offer.
My take
Freedom isn’t a one-time altar moment. It’s staying in the Word day after day and letting the Holy Spirit make it real (John 16:13). Open the Book today, not to check a box, but to hear the Father say He loves you. That’s where the chains start falling off.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
