Chris Hallas introduced ODK, the “Omarchy Development Kit,” on X on October 24, Omarchy Central reports. It’s a foundation for building consistent, themed native apps for Omarchy, “based on Rust and GPUI, moving away from Quickshell.” That’s his kit’s choice, not a change to Omarchy’s own shell.
Two projects in one repo
- ODK: write Rust apps with a GPUI interface that follows your Omarchy theme, with an embedded Luau engine for plugins, all from one odk crate.
- OMA: an app is a
<App>.oma/directory, and theomaprogram verifies, installs, sandboxes and starts it, a bit like a macOS .app with least-privilege sandboxing.
It lives on his personal GitHub, not the official Omarchy org, and it’s very early.
Review before you install: this is third-party, community software. Read the scripts and README yourself before running anything, and only try it on hardware you can afford to wipe.
My take
Sandboxed app bundles on a Linux desktop is exactly the direction I want plugins and apps to go. Worth watching.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
