Kali Linux 2026.3: Build Your Own Image in a Container, Plus New Tools

Kali Linux 2026.3 is out today, the third release of the year.

What’s new

  • Build-scripts refresh: every official image’s build script now has the same layout and options, and each ships a build-in-container.sh that works with Docker or Podman. No more “you need Kali to build Kali.”
  • Desktop: KDE Plasma 6.7 and new icons.
  • New tools, including dalfox (XSS scanning), katana (web crawling), qsreplace, rustscan (fast port scanning), sdrangel (SDR) and snaffler-ng (hunting secrets in SMB shares).
  • Kernel moves to the 7.1 series.
  • NetHunter picks up WearHunter for wardriving from your wrist, an NFC Arsenal and KernelSU support.

My take

Building your own image in a Podman container is the feature I like most. Reproducible builds you can audit beat a mystery ISO. As always, use these tools only on networks you own or have permission to test.
