DeepSeek’s agent runtime grew up. Harness v0.2 (developer preview, late September 2026) ships the first official desktop installers for Apple-silicon macOS and 64-bit Windows. Same MIT-licensed Cordis-plugin architecture as the August npx preview — now with a signed app, login, workspace folder, and a plugin page normal humans can click.
What v0.2 actually adds
Release candidates dsh-v0.2.0-rc.1 / rc.2 gather about a month of changes: desktop builds that can install the dsh CLI from the menu bar, a plugin manager (install by npm name, disable, inspect), scheduled automation tasks, and experimental in-app plugin creation where you describe a plugin and the agent writes it. Official plugins in the mix include Agent Teams, voice input, Shell, Agent Loop, Subagent, and Web Search. The browser UI via npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web still works if you prefer Node.
Linux desktop is the awkward bit. Some launch posts listed Linux next to macOS and Windows; reports say the v0.2 desktop app does not ship a Linux build yet. If you live on Linux daily drivers, plan on the web/CLI path until they catch up — or run the Windows/macOS builds in a VM if you just want to evaluate UX.
Why it is on my radar
Everything-is-a-plugin agent loops are powerful and spooky. A desktop harness with a plugin marketplace trajectory means more people will run shell and browser tools with model credentials sitting nearby. Read the GitHub release notes, keep workspaces narrow, and treat third-party plugins like any other unsigned automation.
Compared with a minimal terminal harness like Pi, DeepSeek Harness is aiming at the desktop-agent audience — login, workspace picker, plugin page, scheduled tasks that keep running when the window closes. That is useful. It is also a bigger trust boundary. Start narrow: one workspace, official plugins only, no Creation mode until you have watched what it writes.
Next step: skim the dsh-v0.2.0-rc.2 notes on GitHub, install on a throwaway profile if you are on Mac/Windows, and try one official plugin before enabling Creation mode.
Happy hacking.
