Small Town, Big God

For years the folks in Whitmire, South Carolina — a town of about 1,400 — prayed for revival. Their line was simple: Small Town. Big God. Then World Harvest Ministry held a Gospel crusade there on September 26–27, 2026, and the weekend matched the prayer.

A sea of children and youth

CBN carried the story both before and after the crusade. Before the weekend, Mayor Billy Hollingsworth said God had not forgotten small towns. After it, prayer leaders described “a sea of children and youth” crying out to God at the altar. Kids and teenagers came without much prompting. Friends prayed over friends. Parents wept while their children professed faith and stepped into baptismal waters.

Evangelist Jacob Ebersole called Whitmire one of those crusades that marks you forever. Churches across the area worked together. Volunteers fed people. When the generator failed just hours before the first service, the community stepped in — and one dad who came to help ended up watching both of his kids come to Christ and get baptized. That is Holy Spirit work, not a marketing plan.

Overlooked does not mean forgotten

I love big arenas and campus nights as much as the next guy. But Whitmire hit me differently. God does not need a metro to move. Zechariah 4:10 (ESV) asks who despised the day of small things. Whitmire answered that question with altar calls and baptisms.

Organizers are now talking about a Small Town Movement for South Carolina — evangelism, discipleship, and churches that stay after the tent comes down. That last part matters. Encounter is real. Follow-up is where the fruit grows. If you live in a place nobody puts on a conference flyer, take heart. The same Spirit who filled Whitmire can fill your living room, your youth group, your small church on a Tuesday night.

Pray for Whitmire’s pastors as they disciple the kids who hit that altar. Pray for other small towns that feel overlooked. And if the Lord puts a quiet place on your heart, do not wait for a big stage. Small Town. Big God. He still answers years of prayer in a weekend.

Have a blessed day!
