GXVK Brings 3Dfx Glide Back on Top of Vulkan

Voodoo nostalgia, meet Vulkan.

What it is

The D7VK project, which runs Direct3D 7, 6, 5 and 3 on Vulkan, shipped version 2.4 with better Wayland behavior and some optimizations. The bigger surprise was in the announcement: a D7VK contributor forked DXVK and built GXVK, a 3Dfx Glide implementation on Vulkan. Glide was the API for the old Voodoo cards before OpenGL and Direct3D took over. The goal is to cover all three 32-bit Glide variants, with a Wine and Linux focus.

My take

This is the kind of open-source project I love. Somebody cared enough about old games to make them run right on modern Linux. Watch the project’s GitHub if you’ve got a Glide-era classic sitting around.

God Bless, and Happy hacking!
