Ever been forgiven and still replayed the moment in your head like security footage? A Christian Post piece names it well.
The trap
The writer, quoting Sinclair Ferguson, calls it “the prodigal’s suspicion.” We get so focused on our failures that we can’t believe God really loves us. Mercy seems fine for other people, just not for us. The writer also points out that when I keep treating my worst moment as the truest thing about me, I’m claiming the right to decide what defines me. That right belongs to God.
My take
Conviction is the Holy Spirit pointing you to the cross. Condemnation is the enemy pointing you back at yourself. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). If He forgave it, it’s paid for. Walk free. That fits Reformation week, too: grace, not performance.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
