Felix Rieseberg, an engineering manager at Anthropic, says he has stopped giving traditional coding interviews.
His case
He wrote that small coding challenges used to tell him something real about candidates. Now, he says, “there’s no more point in giving you a little React challenge than there is in quizzing people about assembly; Claude is now better at both.” Google principal engineer Jaana Dogan said she’d rather watch how people use coding agents. Not everyone is moving that fast, though. ZipRecruiter’s October survey found 62.5% of tech employers still require formal skills tests.
My take
I get it. What matters now is defining the problem, steering the agent and catching it when it’s wrong. Still, someone has to read the diff and know when it’s bad. You can’t judge code you don’t understand.
God Bless, and Use the Source!
