Pew dropped a new religion report on Oct 28, and one number jumped out at me.
The numbers
41% of adults born 2004 to 2008 (roughly 18 to 22) say they attend services at least once or twice a month. The U.S. average is 33%. In a June survey, 34% of adults said they went in person in the last month, and 45% went in person or watched online. Both are the highest Pew has seen since it started asking in 2020.
Pew is careful, though. The 23 to 26 group is the least religious of any age group on prayer, importance and identity, with only 27% attending monthly. Pew says this doesn’t prove a nationwide Gen Z revival yet.
My take
Fine. Pew counts heads. God counts hearts. I’ve watched the campus stories all fall, and the youngest ones are showing up. “I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy” (Joel 2:28). Pray for the 18-year-olds walking in, and pray even harder for the 25-year-olds who walked out. Churches, make room for them.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
