Halloween Week: You Were Bought With a Price, So Stop Acting Like You’re for Sale

Halloween is Saturday. A former leader of South Africa’s Satanic Church, Riaan Swiegelaar, now a believer, had a sharp question for Christians in a Charisma interview.

What he said

“If you are bought with that blood, why would you act like you are still for sale?” He called death and occult decorations invitations to spiritual activity and said some objects can “open doors to demonic activity.” Charisma itself notes one of his claims, that Halloween candy is about “sweetening their blood,” came with no evidence. I’m not repeating that one.

My take

I don’t need to be scared of a pumpkin. Jesus already won. But the spiritual realm is real, and I don’t want to decorate my house with what He died to free me from. “You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). If you want something to do Saturday night, a lot of churches mark Oct 31 for revival and the Reformation. Turn on the worship, pray over your home and hand out candy with a smile. Light shines brightest when it’s dark.

God Bless, and Use the Source!
