FreeRDP 3.33 Runs in Your Browser via WebAssembly, and AI Flooded the Release

FreeRDP 3.33 is out, and the open-source RDP implementation can now be compiled to WebAssembly and run in a browser, Phoronix reports.

Also new

  • Improved SDL client, and experimental UDP for direct RDP connections
  • Unicode keyboard input pipe in every client
  • Experimental Windows shadow server and macOS file clipboard without FUSE
  • Initial message translations
  • 13 known security fixes

The AI angle

The maintainers say “the influx of pull requests and feedback for bugs/regressions/… was huge,” so a patch release is coming soon for the papercuts still in the backlog.

My take

Same story as the kernel and RADV this week: AI is pushing a lot more work at maintainers. With 13 security fixes, update, but maybe wait for the patch release if you’re not in a hurry.

Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.

God Bless, and Use the Source!
