What’s New in Claude Code 2.1.318: Sign-In Expiry Warnings and Low-Effort Side Jobs

Claude Code 2.1.318 is out.

New

  • claude auth status shows when your stored claude.ai sign-in expires (loginExpiresAt), and claude -p warns on stderr starting 10 days before
  • A mod’s $.model.fork takes an effort option, so quick side jobs can run at low effort
  • assume_role on the apps gateway’s mantle upstreams for cross-account AWS roles and per-developer cost attribution
  • It records your answer when Claude Code asks to turn on mods it wrote

Fixes

  • --continue losing earlier conversation after malformed tool-call retries (a 2.1.314 regression)
  • Permission prompts getting answered by keys you typed just before they appeared
  • Config changes silently dropped on shared network home directories, and claude mcp add/remove writing without the lock
  • Idle compaction replacing a conversation with something that wasn’t a summary

My take

The permission-prompt keystroke fix is the important one. You shouldn’t be able to approve something by accident.

Review before you install: read the release notes yourself, back up your config, and try new versions somewhere you can afford to break first.

God Bless, and Use the Source!
