Apple’s New App Store Rules Go After AI Deepfakes

Apple updated its App Store rules on Friday to cover AI-generated nonconsensual intimate images. Explicit content was already banned, but now developers have to actively prevent and remove AI deepfakes, or their apps can get pulled.

The updated guideline 1.2 calls out AI content creation apps by name. MacRumors notes Grok had trouble with this earlier in the year: Apple said it would remove the app if it kept allowing nude deepfakes, safeguards went in, and Apple approved the update.

Apple also added guideline 2.5.19, which says apps that add features not in the reviewed version risk removal from the store and the developer program.

Honestly, good. Nobody should be able to make fake nude images of real people with a couple of taps.

Happy Hacking!
