John Lennox: Stop Being Scared to Share Your Faith

Professor John Lennox, the Oxford mathematician who has spent decades defending the faith in public, gave an interview to Solas that hit me right where I live. At 81 he’s still saying the same thing: the gospel isn’t just for preachers.

What he said

  • Quoting F.F. Bruce: “The New Testament knows nothing of silent Christians.”
  • “We may not all be preachers, but we can all share it. We are all called to be witnesses.”
  • A lot of believers grow their careers but leave their Bible knowledge “at a Sunday school level,” so when the hard questions come, they go quiet.
  • Apologetics just means “defence.” It’s not about winning arguments. It’s about being ready with a reason for the hope you have.

My take

I love this, because fear is exactly what the enemy uses to shut our mouths. But we don’t witness in our own strength. Jesus said we’d receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on us, and we’d be His witnesses. Get in the Word so you’re ready, and then lean on the Spirit for the words when the moment comes. He shows up every time. 1 Peter 3:15 isn’t a suggestion: be ready, and do it with gentleness and respect.

Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
