One of the coolest photos from the Omarchy install party in Shenzhen on October 17: DHH leaning in to look at a half-open Xiaomi 18 Fold running Hyprland. According to co-organizer brutoshi, the owner was Liqiang Wang, a VP at Xiaomi XRING, who later talked about his setup on stage.
How it works
- It’s not bare metal. Android 16’s Linux Terminal boots a Debian 13 aarch64 guest in an AVF virtual machine, and Android keeps running underneath.
- Inside that guest there’s an Arch Linux ARM container under systemd-nspawn, and the Omarchy desktop shows on the Debian host through seatd.
hypr-switch archflips into the Omarchy session andhypr-switch debianflips back.- The README targets any aarch64 device with Android 16’s Linux Terminal and wants at least 20 GB free in the VM.
My take
He’s clear these are hobby projects, and that’s the fun of it. Pair this with the first official aarch64 ISO in 4.5 RC1 and ARM Omarchy is suddenly everywhere. A full tiling desktop on a foldable in your pocket? Sign me up to watch where this goes.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
