If you came to Linux from a Mac and miss Raycast, typecraft just made your week. He released oma-cast on October 19, and DHH reposted it.
What it does
- One search box for your apps, all ~400 Omarchy menu actions (with breadcrumbs and live state), and web-search fallbacks to Google or DuckDuckGo.
- Ranking is a port of Raycast’s root-search algorithm, plus frecency and learned search terms. Type
ff, pick Firefox, andffkeeps meaning Firefox. - Aliases, pinned favorites, hidden commands, a Ctrl+K action panel, Ctrl+1 to 9 quick picks and emacs-style navigation.
- It opens on Alt+Space, so Super+Space stays the Omarchy menu. You can swap it in
~/.config/hypr/oma-cast.lua. - It runs inside omarchy-shell as a plugin, with no Electron, no Node and no extra daemons.
My take
Built in a couple of hours, and it already feels native. That’s the Omarchy community in a nutshell. I’m going to give it a spin.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
