A Mufti’s Son, a Dream of Light, and 13 Lost Teeth

This testimony stopped me cold.

The story

Ahmed Joktan grew up in a strict Muslim home in Saudi Arabia. His father was a mufti, an Islamic legal scholar, and Ahmed had the Quran memorized by 13. A couple of months into English studies in Auckland, New Zealand, he had a dream: balcony doors opening onto overwhelming light, a figure, and a voice saying, “Come to me.” He was told to look for “the house of the white pillars,” where he’d “find the truth.” The search led him to Jesus.

He went home with an Arabic New Testament hidden in his things. His family found it. His brothers beat him, his father threatened him with a rifle, and he lost 13 teeth. “The cost of believing in Jesus is real,” he said. “I have scars on my face, on my back.”

He went on to co-found Mecca to Christ Ministries International, and his message to Christians is simple: share the Gospel with Muslims, and don’t let fear stop you.

My take

Joel 2 promised that God would pour out His Spirit and people would dream dreams. Mission workers have reported dreams of Jesus among Muslims for decades now, usually followed by a believer who can explain what the dream meant. That second part is on us. Jesus is still calling people by name. The question is whether we’ll be the one standing there when they come looking.
