China’s crewed space program outlined how it hopes to land on the Moon by 2030, The Register reports. Deputy chief designer Wang Xiang laid it out at the Seventh Manned Space Symposium.
The plan
- Two Long March 10 rockets: one carries the Lanyue lander, the other the Mengzhou crew capsule
- They meet in lunar orbit, and two of the three taikonauts move to Lanyue and land
- Earth-orbit tests of both vehicles first, then an uncrewed Moon visit, then a crewed attempt by 2030
China scrubbed its Chang’e 7 south-pole mission in August a day before launch and plans to try again next year.
My take
With Artemis on its own timeline, the next Moon race is real. Fun to watch.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
