Cursor, Grok and X in One Bill: Which Combo Makes Sense

Cursor, Grok and X just got rolled into one bill. On October 12, SpaceXSI announced The X Subscription, one plan that covers Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium. I pay for Cursor and I run three X accounts, so I spent some time with the pricing pages to work out what actually makes sense. Here’s what each plan includes, what it costs, and what I’m doing.

The new plans

There are five individual tiers. The same table is on both x.ai/pricing and cursor.com/pricing. Prices are monthly and don’t include tax.

Plan Price What you get Who it’s for
Free $0 Limited Grok chat, limited agent requests, a starter allowance for Cursor’s coding agents, standard X Kicking the tires
Plus $8/mo Shared AI usage pool. Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build, the Grok API, and Cursor (Grok models only). On X: Premium checkmark, fewer timeline ads, creator tools, Advanced Analytics, edit posts, longer posts, Articles X creators who want the checkmark and a little AI. xAI’s own FAQ says Plus is “recommended for social creators with limited AI usage.”
Premium $30/mo 4x Plus usage. Latest Grok models, Grok Bot, video generation, cloud agents and automations, code hosting via Origin, AI code reviews via Bugbot, third-party models in Cursor at API list price (billed separately). On X: ad-free on most surfaces, preferred @handle, higher reply boost Most people who code with AI. xAI recommends it for new AI users.
Super $100/mo 15x Plus usage, plus priority model access at peak times Daily agent users
Ultra $200/mo 50x Plus usage, plus earliest access to new products and models Power users
Teams $30+/user/mo Premium, Super or Ultra at the same per-seat price, plus SSO, admin controls, centralized billing and usage analytics Shops with more than one dev

A few details matter more than the table shows:

  • One shared pool, refreshed weekly. Your usage covers Grok models in the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X and Cursor. It refreshes every week instead of every month, and you can buy top-ups if you run out (x.ai pricing FAQ).
  • Third-party models cost extra on every new tier. Plus is Grok models only. On Premium and up you can still pick other vendors’ models in Cursor, but they’re billed at API list price through top-ups from the first request, with spending caps you can set (Cursor pricing FAQ).
  • Premium replaces three old subscriptions. xAI says the $30 tier carries “the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined” (announcement).
  • More Grok coding usage. xAI says each new plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with Grok models as the comparable Cursor plan. I haven’t measured that myself.

What happens to the old plans

Existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers keep their current plan, price and features. The old plans are closed to new sign-ups, though. You can switch from your billing settings for a prorated refund, but that switch is rolling out over the next few days. xAI says it will eventually move the remaining customers onto the new plans. There’s no timeline for that yet, and they’ve promised advance notice (announcement FAQ).

For reference, Cursor’s docs still list the legacy plans: Pro at $20/mo, Pro Plus at $60/mo and Ultra at $200/mo. All three include “Other Models” in the plan (Cursor docs). That’s the big difference. On legacy Cursor Pro, non-Grok model usage is part of the plan, and Cursor’s forum post confirms “your included third-party usage continues until you switch” (Cursor forum).

My combo

I have three X accounts, so I can test this without betting everything on one setup.

  1. Keep Cursor Pro ($20). I use a mix of models in Cursor, and legacy Pro still covers other vendors’ models in the plan. On the new tiers I’d pay API list price for those on top of the subscription. For how I work, staying put is the cheaper path for now.
  2. Add the $8 Plus tier on the X account tied to my Cursor Pro. That gets me the checkmark, fewer ads and creator tools on X, plus some Grok usage. One caution: the upgrade flow links your X, Grok and Cursor accounts, and when you upgrade, “your current plans end with a prorated refund.” I’m going to read the billing screen carefully to make sure adding Plus doesn’t quietly replace my Cursor Pro. The pricing pages don’t say whether you can keep legacy Cursor Pro and Plus side by side on linked accounts, so I’ll report back once I’ve seen it.
  3. Run a separate X account on Premium ($30) as a test. This is where I find out whether 4x Plus usage, Grok Bot and cloud agents hold up against my real workload, and how fast that weekly pool drains. If Grok models cover most of my coding, Premium alone could replace Cursor Pro plus an X subscription. If I keep reaching for other models, the top-up bill will show me that fast.

Which combo makes sense for you

  • Mostly on X, light AI: Plus at $8.
  • You code daily and you’re happy with Grok models: Premium at $30 is the value pick, and Super at $100 if you run agents all day.
  • You live on other vendors’ models in Cursor: if you’re on a legacy Cursor plan, don’t rush to switch. Your included third-party usage ends when you do.
  • You want to compare before you commit: do what I’m doing and test the new tier on a second account while your main setup stays the same.

I’ll post numbers once I’ve had a couple of weekly refresh cycles on the $30 account.

What I couldn’t verify: how big the “Base” usage pool actually is (xAI only gives multiples of Plus), whether annual billing exists for the new plans, and whether X Premium’s old standalone prices still apply to existing subscribers. help.x.com blocked my checks, so I left those numbers out rather than guess.
