Discord Will Let Google Index Big Public Servers. Here’s How to Opt Out

Discord is about to put some public server chats on the open web.

What’s changing

Discoverable Servers, the publicly listed communities with at least 1,000 members (about 63,000 of them), will get web pages that search engines can index. Private servers, DMs and group chats aren’t included. If admins don’t set them up first, Server Web Pages get created automatically on Nov 16. Message indexing rolls out gradually in December, and messages posted before the release date are excluded.

How to control it

  • Admins: Server Settings > Web Presence lets you exclude channels or turn sharing off. Switching the server to private before the cutoff avoids it entirely.
  • Members: User Settings > Data and Privacy controls whether your future messages show up. Messages that are already public can’t be pulled back.

My take

If you hang out in big public servers, assume what you post can end up in Google from now on.

God Bless, and Use the Source!
