Slashdot reader ole (Ole Aamot, from Norway) shared a batch of free GNOME software releases this weekend.
- GarageJam 8.0.1: a free music recording studio for GNOME, in C and Python. It records straight to Ogg Vorbis and lets you edit metadata in .gjxml files from a GTK wizard, built on the Gingerblue Recording Studio API. There’s an IETF draft for the XML format too.
- GNOME Media: internet radio and your photos on one OpenStreetMap. Click a station to listen, and photos with GPS EXIF data show up on the map. Built from GNOME Radio 85.0.1.
- GPhoto 3.0.1: built on libgphoto2 2.5.34, which now supports more than 2,500 camera models.
- Skolelinux 13.6.0: a ready-to-use free OS for schools, built on Debian 13.
My take
Small, focused free software from one dedicated developer. Recording straight to Ogg is a nice touch. Worth a look if you make music on Linux.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
