France’s national blood service (EFS) says a November 2 cyberattack on its refrigeration supplier raised temperature and defrost settings at three facilities.
What happened
- EFS wasn’t hit directly. Its cold-storage vendor’s remote monitoring was
- Coolworld Rentals says a bug in a third-party component affected a limited number of its units
- EFS alarms caught it fast. Staff fixed the units or moved products. No blood was lost and no health impact was found
My take
This is the second fridge story in a few weeks, after the supermarket defrost attacks. Remote management on equipment is a real attack surface. The hero here is the separate alarm system that didn’t trust the controller.
God Bless, and Happy hacking!
