Linux 7.3 is due as stable today, which means the 7.4 merge window opens right after. Phoronix has a preview of what’s lined up.
Highlights
- AMDGPU HDMI 2.1 on by default, with VRR and ALLM support already in place.
- AMD PerfOpt IOMMU enabled by default, which can give big AI/LLM speedups on AMD iGPUs, including older generations.
- More AMD Zen 6 work (BTB CTX isolation, RMPOPT, P-State improvements) and NPU support for Ryzen AI Max 400 “Gorgon Halo.”
- Intel prep for Rugged Panther Lake, Battlemage migration-queue improvements, and a vRAM health check with degraded memory handling.
- Continued work on NVIDIA’s Nova driver.
My take
The PerfOpt change is the one I’d watch if you run local models on an AMD laptop. Free speed from a kernel update is the best kind. Omarchy tends to pick up new kernels quickly, so expect this to land on rolling setups not long after release.
