Ransomware Takes Down Queens Public Library’s Wi-Fi, Checkouts and Website

New York’s Queens Public Library is fighting a ransomware attack, The Register reports.

  • Down: the website, on-site computers, checkout and return machines, public Wi-Fi, the mobile app and digital media
  • All 66 branches are still open, and there are no late fines
  • The library says restoring systems “will take some time”
  • No gang has claimed it yet

My take

Libraries are a lifeline for people without home internet, and attackers know public institutions are stretched thin. Pray for the IT team working this one.

God Bless, and Use the Source!
