The Pi Zero 2 W is five years old, and a successor may finally be coming.
What’s in the code
A merged pull request in the raspberrypi/linux repo is titled “Add device tree for Pi Zero 3 W and Pi 4A.” The Register, citing Phoronix, says the Zero 3 W could use the Pi 4’s Broadcom SoC, a big jump from the RP3A0. Heat is a real question on a board that small. eMMC is mentioned too, though The Register doubts it ships. The Pi 4 Model A looks like a cost-cutting board: less memory, no Ethernet, maybe a single HDMI port. Raspberry Pi said it had nothing to add.
My take
A faster Zero would be great for little home-lab jobs. But this is just a device tree, not an announcement. No price, no memory size and no date yet, so file it under rumor until Raspberry Pi says something.
God Bless, and Needs Garlic!
