OpenAI’s proactive agent, ChatGPT dot, used to live only inside the ChatGPT app. Now you can text it.
How it works
Open your dot’s profile and pick Texting. You can send it tasks or things to watch as text, photos or voice notes over iMessage or RCS, and it texts you back with updates on its own. OpenAI says your dot keeps the same context and plugins wherever you reach it. 9to5Mac thinks it could also make dot usable from an Apple Watch through Messages, though that still needs testing.
My take
Agents in your messages app is clearly where everyone’s headed. I like having my bots reachable from my phone without opening yet another app. Just remember an agent you can text is an agent somebody could try to social-engineer, so keep its permissions tight.
