Apple Silicon support for Omarchy is moving fast, from the M6 Mac mini to this week’s M4 Pro MacBook Pro work. Here’s a generic checklist for following along without breaking anything.
Where to watch
- Omarchy Central’s news feed, which tracks pull requests and community ports.
- The aurora-silicon/linux repo on GitHub, where M-series kernel patches land for review.
- Omarchy’s own releases and changelog, for when support actually ships.
Before you try anything
- Know the difference between “PR up for review,” “merged,” and “shipped in a release.” Most headlines are the first one.
- Check that your exact model and chip are listed as supported, not just the chip family.
- Read the known-limits section. Things like special boot loaders or firmware tied to a specific macOS version matter.
- Back up the Mac first, and keep macOS around so you can get back.
Review before you install: pre-release kernels and community ports are third-party software. Read the instructions and scripts yourself before you install anything, and expect rough edges.
My take
Watching is free. Waiting for “merged and released” is usually the smart move for a daily driver.
Have a blessed day! And Happy Hacking!
