Mel Gibson sent a video message to Pastor Samuel Rodriguez and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Charisma reports, and the big ask wasn’t “buy tickets.” It was “pray.” The Resurrection of the Christ Part One hits theaters May 6, 2027.
The details
“Please prepare your churches to pray for us as we get ready to release the film in theaters next May,” Gibson said. Rodriguez was on set with him in Italy. The video also features Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller saying Gibson is “preaching the gospel with this modern means,” and Franklin Graham calling the Resurrection “the greatest event in history.”
My take
An empty tomb is the whole ballgame. “He is not here; he has risen!” (Luke 24:6). A Catholic filmmaker, a Pentecostal pastor and an evangelist all lining up behind the risen Jesus? That’s the Body of Christ doing what it should. I’m praying the Spirit uses this film to wake people up to a living hope.
God Bless, and May the Source Be with You!
